New modern design puts main living areas and master suite on the second floor.
At the recent PCBC (Pacific Coast Builders Conference), the former editor of Builder
magazine talked about the rising interest in modern home design -- with open plan interiors and simple contemporary exteriors. We are seeing evidence of this development in our latest plans, like this one -- Plan 132-226
(exterior shown above).
It offers 4 bedrooms, 3 baths on two levels. The great room, master suite, and guest suite are on the upper level. The great room is L-shaped, with living areas opposite the kitchen,
and a patio or living porch at one end, facing the street.
The lower level includes two more bedrooms plus an exercise room, a laundry, and a spacious bonus room that can function as a play space or bunk room. The two bedrooms open to a covered terrace.
In this example, the house is sited on a slight rise -- the lower level is against the hill with one side open, becoming what is called a day-lit basement.
